Midweek Motivation - Handmade Embellishments

Hello everyone, it's Fliss here with hopefully a little encouragement if you haven't yet entered our challenge this week which is all about DIY.
Most of my creations tend to be DIY out of choice, largely because when I began stamping in the mid 90s (yes, it really is that long!) you simply couldn't get all the beautiful papers now available and having got into the habit of making my own, it stuck!
Below you'll find a photo of the things you need to make a lovely faux metal charm which is really easy to do.

You'll notice that I've used an embossing ink dabber which is because the die cut heart shape (Marianne Design) is quite an intricate lacy style and although you can use an ink pad, I find it much easier to take the cap off the dabber and paint the ink on with a brush before coating with embossing powder.
I also used detail embossing powder as it's much finer and gives better coverage. You don't need the paper piercer unless you want to make a charm which was my original intention but it didn't quite fit in with the card design like that.
Here's the finished card and please do let me know what you think.

As you'll see, I made everything here. The paler paper is a B Line Designs stamp embossed with puff white and inked with Antique Linen Distress ink.
The red paper was a piece from my bits box made ages ago with red chalk ink and a brayer. I swiped on some Galaxy Gold Brilliance ink and dry embossed a strip with the Cuttlebug textile folder. I die cut a doily (Marianne Design) from some more.
The gold lace is a B Line Designs stamp embossed with detail gold powder and cut out.
The image panel is by Crafty Individuals and was stamped with Archival Coffee ink and coloured with Copic markers. I added a stamped and coloured flower and butterfly as further embellishments.

Some fabulous entries so far and let's hope for lots more!
Thanks for looking.
Fliss xx

Handmade Embellishments

Good morning everyone,  welcome to a new challenge at Make My Monday and it's Fliss here with your theme for this week which because I'm a bit of a DIY fanatic is

Handmade Embellishments

so it's time to dig out those die cuts, punches, embossing powders, stamps and so on to see what you can make to embellish your creation rather than reach for those ready made embellies.

We can't wait to see what you create but in the meantime here's some gorgeous inspiration from the Design Team.

Mid Week Inspiration Green and Yellow

What to do with the waste of your background card? Last week my Green and Yellow card was made from a sheet I had coloured using the shaving foam (cream) technique. All you need to do for a video is go to You Tube, there are lots of visual demonstrations on how to achieve this. I used a set of Inkadinkado Inchie stamps, on a green mat on a yellow layer. I made 3 x 4 inch square cards, ideal for a quick card. You could make a set number, make a 4.5 inch box and give as a small gift. The sheet below made last week's card, you can find  here, plus the three cards above.

Mid Week Motivation: Literary Inspiration: Jane Eyre

Hi, friends!  I hope that you've been having fun making creations based on the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte!  I've got a little bit of Mid Week Motivation for you today featuring more silhouettes!

Here's what I've created for you~

A lot of people think that silhouettes are usually black black, but I've found that doing some tone on tone stamping creates a very lovely silhouette effect that is more subtle.  This is what I've done for my MWM card.  I stamped the silhouette flowers on the kraft cardstock with a Versamark pad to create a watermark effect.  This same effect can be done without a Versamark pad as well.  You just need ink and paper that are the same color!

I hope you take some time to play around with the silhouette images you have in your stash.  If you make something you like, I hope you link it up in the original challenge post!  HUGS and happy stamping, friends! :)

Literary Inspiration: Jane Eyre

Welcome to another fabulous challenge here at Make My Monday!  This week we have another literary inspiration challenge for you.  Our hostess, Mynnette, has chosen another one of her favorite books--Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.  Choose to be inspired by the book cover or the story line or both!

Here's the cover~

A little bit about this book:  Jane is an orphan dependent upon unloving relatives for a living.  At a young age, she is forced out of her aunt's house and into a school where she learns to become a teacher or governess.  Her only friend there dies as a child and she suffers many hardships.  After growing up sufficiently, she accepts a governess position at Thornfield Hall.  Her new master is broody and seemingly unkind.  The child she is responsible for is starved for love and just a tad spoiled.  Will Jane ever find happiness in her new life?  I won't tell you--you'll have to read the book!

And now inspiration from the MMM DT~

Mid Week Motivation

Good morning all, welcome to mid week motivation provided this week by me... Suzi B.
I thought I'd share a grid card using digi images from bitm@p bought via Etsy store.

I printed the download onto A4 thin card, cut out the square then picked the six I wanted to use.
The second layer of backing paper was made using Versafine Vintage Sepia for the script stamp and Versafine Onyx Back for the swirl. I used the second stamping for the swirl. the edges of the paper where distressed then  DI Antique Linen around the edges and slightly into the centre, followed by vintage sepia just on the edges....
I stamped a different swirl around the edges of the first layer then used Vintage Sepia on the edges which had been distressed .  The squares were added to black card stock with sticky fixes and three more of the butterflies cut out and layered up.

First layer up from base card.

Second layer.... Distressing not shown on photograph  :(  black card stock with butterfly squares fixed on top of this layer. Then I added the little butterfly which was part of a jewellery chain bought in the sales for a pound!

Enjoy your day  and have crafty fun.

The winner will be announced at the same time as the Top Three for this weeks challenge.

Take a look at the  DT's fabulous inspiration pieces.   I would love it if you visited their individual  blogs  to leave some love :)
 Most of all folks, enjoy!
